Kritsa Home: My Refuge

I visited Crete for the first time in 2012. Only in 2015, once I returned, the magic of this island got hold of me.

Back in my home country, I suddenly found myself looking for a second home on Crete. Never before wishing to buy a property in Greece, I fell in love with the Eastern side of the island, the Lasithi area.

Finally, I found my home on Crete online via a Greek real estate agent. The house is in Kritsa, a hillside village on the east side of the island, close to Agios Nikolaos (only 10 km away).

Kritsa has around 2,800 inhabitants. Olive growing and agriculture is an essential source of their daily occupation.

The house was already modernized 8 years ago but stayed empty: due to the Greek crisis the house could not be sold.

I fell in love with the house straight away, even before I visited it. The decision was made to fly over to Crete and I visited the house and the village for the very first time on a dull January day. I did see a number of other houses during that stay too but I could not put my heart into any other house than the one I liked right from the beginning.

I bought my home in May 2016. After a renovation and the subsequent furnishing of my new home, I first stayed in my house 4 months later.

Since then I have a second home on Crete, which is a place I really love and enjoy.

Wonderful neighbors are living around me, giving the experience in my new house another special touch. I was welcomed by all of them and received a lot of assistance to settle in, from knowing where to pay my electricity or water bill to find someone to restore my electricity back after I blew the main fuse out at Christmas.

I am so happy with all those experiences and as a consequence, this is a decision I never regretted.
